Arsenal 2-1 Man Utd highlights, super Sam!

We did it! I still can’t quite believe it, but we beat Man Utd 2-1 at home. Nasri’s two fantastic goals gave us 3 points! We played with a weakened side, and we had just come off the back of some awful results and we still did it! The lift this will give the team will be amazing. The game started tentatively, but we got into our game as it went on. We defended hard throughout the match, and we did close the game, bringing on the likes of Toure and Alex Song. We still conceded in the 90th minute, to a goal which we couldn’t have saved, and that put us in for 6 horrible minutes of injury time. But a great win and special mentions to Nasri, Gallas, Fabregas and Diaby who all played fantastically!

  1. I think you’re right john, denilson was fantastic, he has been growing and growing in every game he has played, and he’s becoming an asset. Still not sure about how consistent he can be, but he has potential to become even better.

Your right John. Denilson deserves some praise too. If it weren’t for Nasri’s 2 goals then my Man of the Match award would be for either Denilson or Gallas. Denilson finished the game with I think 60 accurate passes at an accuracy rate of 92%.

Denilson doesn’t get the credit he deserves. If you look at the stats, so far this season he has bettered Cesc in almost every single way. Whilst he attacking play is not as sublime as Cesc’s (when Cesc is on form), if he continues his development (coz he is only 20 after all), I feel that Denilson will be more a a complete central midfielder than Cesc can be.

I think the main reason we won yesterday was because for the first time this season we looked to have a central defensive partnership that complimented each other. Gallas and Silvestre should definately play together when they are both fit and I propose that say if one of either Gallas or Silvestre or even both are injured then that partnership should be replaced by another central defensive partnership such as Toure and Djourou who I feel can combine well together.

Toure and Gallas should only be used together as a last resort.

Also special praise should go to Diaby who although playing in an unfamiliar role still managed to power his way through Man U’s midfield.

This guy looks to have more potential than any of our other young stars (including Cesc I feel) but where does he fit in? I have my doubts as to whether he can strictly be a defensive midefielder but I also feel that he has the potential to replace Cesc Fabregas in the middle.

Rather than rely on a more traditional CDM and CAM pairing in the middle, I think this season Wenger is trying to change our system to employ two CM who both share their attacking duties and defensive duties. The only problem with this system so far has been that Cesc is a little too lightweight and also off form regularly losing possession and rarely able to regain it. Indeed, if we are to call Cesc one of the best midfielders in the world, then this is an area that he will need to develop to be considered along the lines of say Gerrard or Scholes. Nevertheless, I digress and to get to the the point, as I mentioned above, if Wenger is trying to employ two CM then the best two candidates for that position right now are Denilson and Diaby.

I would like to see this formation tried for the next game.

  6. I like your creativity Jav, but I can’t agree with you about the tactics.

Fabregas is the creative spark of our team, I think apart from strikers, the formation and line-up on Saturday was probably our strongest.

In a 4-4-2 Ade and RVP should play up front. Gallas and Silvestre together in defence.

Denilson, Diaby and Fabregas are excellent in the centre of a 4-5-1, and with the creativity of Nasri and the pace of Walcott, I think it could be a deadly formation!
